Celebrating Visionary Women: Two Decades of Impact and Innovation
A Landmark Celebration of Women's Entrepreneurship
The prestigious Cartier Women's Initiative recently commemorated its 20th anniversary with a distinguished gathering at the Morgan Library and Museum. This momentous occasion convened prominent individuals from the arts, public health, philanthropy, and fashion sectors, all united in their support for the initiative's mission to uplift entrepreneurs dedicated to positive societal and ecological transformation.
Distinguished Voices on Empowerment and Progress
To honor this significant milestone, Cartier hosted a special installment of its "Cartier Dialogues" conversation series. The event, strategically timed after New York Fashion Week, the U.N. General Assembly, and Climate Week, featured insightful discussions. Attendees were captivated by evolutionary scholar and author Dr. Cat Bohannon, supermodel and philanthropist Karlie Kloss, and U.N. Goodwill Ambassador and ACLU artist ambassador Padma Lakshmi, who shared their perspectives on vital contemporary issues.
Funding the Future: Impact and Outreach
Following a reception celebrating two decades of achievements and the $16 million in funding distributed to 360 entrepreneurs globally, guests transitioned to the museum's elegant performance hall. There, they engaged in profound discussions centered on the future of women's leadership and the critical role of empathy.
Addressing Disparities in Women's Healthcare
Cyrille Vigneron, Chairman of Cartier Culture and Philanthropy, expertly guided the initial dialogue with Dr. Bohannon. Dr. Bohannon elucidated the persistent gender-based knowledge gaps in women's healthcare research within the United States. She powerfully stated, "What you don't fund, you can't research, and what you can't research, you can't treat," highlighting the urgent need for investment in this area. She further emphasized that scientific change is intrinsically linked to broader social transformation.
Cultivating Empathy in Leadership
This foundational discussion seamlessly transitioned into a conversation between Vigneron, Kloss, and Lakshmi on the indispensable role of empathy in effective leadership. Kloss reflected on her journey with Kode With Klossy, her tech incubator, noting, "It's not just investing capital in women entrepreneurs. There's this ripple effect when you believe in and hold a space for young women and gender-expansive youth to be seen and connect with each other."
Building a Network of Mentorship and Influence
Lakshmi articulated her aspirations for the coming decade, drawing inspiration from her extensive advocacy work with the Endometriosis Foundation of America, the U.N., and the ACLU. She expressed her strong desire to mentor young women, envisioning a powerful "old broad network" to counterbalance existing male-dominated structures. She concluded with a compelling question: "What is power worth if you can't spread it around and wield it properly?"
